Forestry Field Day – Ditmer Farm & Wilson/Lenox House

Forestry Field Day

Join us for a day of history, conservation, and hands-on learning at Forestry Field Day, hosted by Shelby County’s Soil and Water Conservation District at one of Shelby County’s most scenic and historically rich landscapes. Located on the Ditmer Farm, this event invites landowners, nature lovers, history buffs, and curious minds to explore the connections between natural resource stewardship and local heritage at the historic Wilson/Lenox House (built in 1816), and what remains of the once beautiful Turtle Creek Twin Culvert.

Forestry Field Day offers a rare opportunity to tour a private, well-managed woodland while learning directly from forestry professionals, conservation experts, and local historians. Discover best practices in forest management, soil conservation, and habitat preservation—right alongside stories of the early settlers who once lived and worked this land.

Event Highlights Include:

Guided woodland walks and tree ID sessions

Demonstrations on sustainable forestry practices

History tours of the Wilson House (1816)

Wildlife and habitat discussions

Waterway and erosion control insights at the Turtle Creek Twin Culvert

Time for Q&A with forestry experts and historians
